Not a man known for his conspicuous humour, Piggott was nonetheless willing to pose for the Daily Mirror’s Charlie Ley in 1978. “I won’t fall off, will I?” he asked Ley with a smile.

"When racing was racing" contains a lot of information about the history of the British turf and something that we can not find in any other publication: its innumerable photographs of unforgettable moments, anecdotes and curious facts that could only have been picked up by the Daily Mirror reporters and photographers  during many decades of turf
